80% of German citizens not only know but also use Bitcoins.
This fact is confirmed by results of the survey carried out by the BearingPoint consulting company.
According to the data, over a half of surveyed presume that they will pay in Bitcoins in the future. Furthermore, German citizens are aware of alternative digital currencies like PayCoin and BitShares.
Despite being well-known, Bitcoin is used for making payments by only 5% of respondents. Payment cards and cash are still the most common means of payment.
According to one more survey on payment systems conducted by the European Council, 9 out of 10 EU citizens believe that in 2025 payment instruments will be influenced by the blockchain.
More than the third of surveyed suppose that blockchain will become a niche product for some areas, and less than the third believe that the blockchain will be used in innovative paying products only. The survey authors have counted 24% optimists who expect the blockchain to be adopted by the entire paying infrastructure.
