Denmark wants to abandon cash

The Danish National Bank (Danmarks Nationalbank) considers the possibility of giving up the use of printed money in favor of e-currency, Bloomberg writes.

According to Central Bank’s governor Lars Rohde, currently only 20% of transactions in the country are executed using cash.

Due to the costs associated with the production of physical money, the regulator wants to replace them with so-called e-krone.

It is expected that the digital currency turnover will be provided by blockchain. The country is already familiar with the technology, Rode says.

Few matters remain to be resolved: whether cryptocurrency will be anonymous, and to what extent the national regulator should control transaction. The main thing that bothers Central Bank is possible hacker attacks, which can inflict harm to the financial system.
