SegWit2x developers specified the number of block, where hard fork will take place and the formation of 2 MB blocks will begin, CoinDesk reported.
Hard fork will take place on the block 494 784. It is expected that it will be produced in November. The SegWit2x development team warns users that by that time all network participants should update the software to the latest version. Thus, the hard fork will take place approximately 90 days after the adoption of SegWit.
Starting with the block number 494 784, miners will form 2 MB blocks instead of 1 MB ones. The decision to increase the block size was announced by a number of mining pools during the meeting in Hong Kong in February 2016, and then ratified by the relevant agreement in May 2017.
However, members of the bitcoin community disagree with network scaling. Opponents of the decision believe that it takes into account the interests of large mining pools and corporations rather than those of regular miners. They also doubt that scaling is so necessary, especially when the network has already experienced one split.
