American company TransActive Grid will provide an opportunity to buy and sell electric energy to neighbours. The project was developed using Ethereum platform.
According to authors of the project, all house owners who have solar panels or other alternative electric energy sources will be added to peer-to-peer network for selling, buying or exchanging electric energy.
As it is known, when using a traditional electric grid consumers buy electric energy from major providers, who can stop electric supply in case of emergencies or natural disasters. A micro network, which maintains connection with global network and allows buying electric energy from homeowners who have wind power generators, solar panels or other electric energy sources, can serve as a substitute in such cases.
A pilot micro network is being developed in Brooklyn. It consists of ordinary buildings and buildings with alternative electric energy sources.
